How to tell what you are looking at - Oshima

Examples of Oshima kimono.  To be honest, the first 2 pictures are prints and not the
real deal.  The two pictures on the far right are pieces of oshima.  Oshima is
characterized by using high quality tsumugi silk and a very special weaving technique to
get its effect.  Not much of it is seen in America as the more affordable pieces are not
flashy.  It is made on a small island south of Kyushu and still hand woven to this day.
Everyone should have a piece in their collection.  The feel of the silk is exceptional.  New
Oshima kimono similar in design to the one on the far right start at 200000yen (as of
2008) and get real expensive from there.
